Los Angeles Heat Wave Causes Massive Power Outages and Fuels Wildfires

Record-setting heat in Los Angeles caused significant power outages, leading to the cancellation of a Vance Joy concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Roughly 8,000 residents experienced outages as rolling blackouts swept through the city, affecting areas like Harvard Park, Hollywood, and Northridge. Southern California Edison also announced planned outages impacting nearly 50,000 customers to mitigate fire risks. The intense heat has fueled two major wildfires: the Line Fire in San Bernardino and the Bridge Fire near the Angeles National Forest. Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency as evacuation orders were issued for impacted communities. Schools in San Bernardino County were closed, and Highway 39 was shut down to manage the growing threat from the Bridge Fire.
