Major "Crime Tourism" Bust Unveiled in Southern California
Federal prosecutors have unveiled a 46-count indictment against six individuals accused of running a sophisticated "crime tourism" ring in Southern California. Allegedly led by Juan Carlos Thola-Duran and his girlfriend Ana Maria Arriagada, the ring orchestrated high-profile thefts and frauds, generating approximately $5.5 million. The accused faces a range of federal crimes, including money laundering, wire fraud, and conspiracy. The group is said to have directed co-conspirators from South America to commit thefts across the U.S., stealing luxury goods from homes and retail stores. The proceeds were laundered through a Van Nuys-based rental car company owned by Arriagada. Authorities seized 25 vehicles, multiple properties, and other valuables believed to be purchased with illicit funds as part of the investigation.
