UC Files Lawsuit Against UAW for Third Time

UPDATE: As of Friday, an Orange County judge ordered the union representing UC academic workers to halt its strike at six campuses. The judge ruled that the walkout appeared to be causing “damage to students.”

The University of California has filed a lawsuit in the Orange County Superior Court seeking a temporary restraining order to halt the ongoing United Auto Workers Local 4811 union strike. This marks UC's third attempt to end the work stoppage, which began in solidarity with pro-Palestinian protests and has escalated due to alleged violations of workers' rights by the UC administration. Academic workers from six campuses, including UC Irvine and UCLA, joined the strike, which is reportedly the largest work stoppage in the U.S. this year. The previous attempts to resolve the issue through the state Public Employment Relations Board were unsuccessful, prompting UC officials to take legal action for a speedy resolution.
