USC Student Who Fatally Stabbed Man Outside Frat House Will Not Face Criminal Charges

Ivan Gallegos, a 19-year-old USC student, will not face criminal charges for the fatal stabbing of Xavier Cerf outside a fraternity house. District Attorney George Gascón cited genuine fear for life as the reason behind Gallegos's actions. Gallegos, who was taken into custody immediately after the incident, has been supported by friends, teachers, and even his former fast-food manager, all vouching for his character. Gallegos and his friends went to investigate when they heard a car alarm go off. They found Cerf in the car, who claimed ownership and said he had a gun. This led to a confrontation where Cerf was fatally injured. Gallegos’s grandmother expressed relief and sadness over the incident, emphasizing that Gallegos acted out of fear for his life.
