California Lawmakers Pass “No Secret Police Act” to Boost Transparency

California legislators have approved the No Secret Police Act (SB 627), a measure that bans law enforcement officers from concealing their faces and requires clear identification during operations. Authored by Sen. Scott Wiener, the bill aims to restore public trust and prevent officers from being mistaken for criminals, with exceptions for undercover work, SWAT teams, wildfire smoke protection, and medical use. The bill now heads to Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has until mid-October to sign or veto it.

FBI and Utah Gov Reveal New Details in Charlie Kirk Assassination

FBI Director Kash Patel says the accused shooter who killed activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University left a note and text outlining his plan before the attack. Investigators recovered DNA evidence linking Tyler Robinson, 22, to the rifle used, while Gov. Spencer Cox revealed Robinson lived with a transgender partner and had broken from his family’s conservative beliefs. Motive remains unclear as officials continue probing the shocking campus assassination.

Santa Monica Pier Waters Turn Pink for UCLA Study

UCLA researchers, in partnership with The Bay Foundation, are releasing non-toxic pink dye into the waters around the Santa Monica Pier this month to track how the beach’s breakwater impacts water flow and pollution. The fluorescent dye, visible briefly in the mornings, is safe for people and wildlife and will help scientists better understand the pier’s longstanding water quality issues, which have landed it near the top of Heal the Bay’s “Beach Bummer” list.

Former San Francisco Chef Arrested After Alleged Triple Bank Robbery
