Los Angeles Plans Sixth Street Bridge Relighting Before 2028 Olympics
Los Angeles officials have hired Tetra Tech to restore lighting on the Sixth Street Bridge following widespread copper theft that left the structure dark. Crews will repair roadway and arch lighting, secure wiring, and install security cameras to prevent future theft, with work scheduled for completion ahead of the 2028 Olympics. The contract also includes progress on the adjacent PARC project, a planned 12-acre green space featuring sports fields, fitness areas, and a performance stage expected to open later this year.
Costa Mesa Requires Staffed Self-Checkout Lanes to Combat Retail Theft
Costa Mesa has approved a new ordinance requiring at least one employee to monitor self-checkout lanes at grocery and drug stores, joining Long Beach in adopting similar rules aimed at reducing retail theft and protecting store workers. Backed by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, the measure passed 5 to 2 and includes fines of up to $1,000 per day for violations.
