L.A. County District Attorney Will Recommend 'Immediate Parole' For Menendez Brothers

In a significant development, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced that he will recommend resentencing for Lyle and Erik Menendez, who infamously killed their parents in 1989. The Menendez brothers argue that years of physical and sexual abuse drove them to the desperate act. Gascón believes a manslaughter charge might be more appropriate and is lobbying for their eligibility for immediate parole. During a press conference, Gascón emphasized the shift in societal attitudes towards sexual abuse, which he believes warrants a reevaluation of the brothers' sentences. With new evidence suggesting prolonged abuse, their defense attorneys, Mark Geragos and Cliff Gardner, argue the brothers have served excessive time. The fate of Lyle and Erik now rests in a Superior Court Judge's hands, with a decision expected next month.
