Deaths Among Unhoused Residents in LA County Decline for First Time
For the first time since Los Angeles County began tracking the data, deaths among unhoused residents declined in 2024. A new public health report shows 2,208 people experiencing homelessness died last year, about 300 fewer than in 2023, while the overall mortality rate dropped 10 percent. Officials credit expanded overdose prevention efforts such as naloxone distribution, which helped drive a 21 percent decline in overdose deaths.
