Did an Artist Fake a Freeway Sign Downtown?

In 2001, artist Richard Ankrom used his skills to address the navigation confusion on Los Angeles' 110 freeway by creating a sign himself. Missing his off-ramp too often and feeling the signage was inadequate, Ankrom covertly installed a hand-crafted replica freeway sign. He took meticulous care to ensure the sign matched official standards, down to the Pantone color swatches. Ankrom's sign was so spot-on that it remained undetected for eight years until it was replaced by an official sign. Even after the sign was removed, Ankrom kept the spirit of his guerrilla art alive through various projects and showcased the original materials from his freeway endeavor at art exhibitions in LA.
