Erik Menendez Denied Parole in First Bid for Release

Thirty-six years after the Beverly Hills murders that shocked the nation, Erik Menendez was denied parole in his first hearing before the California Parole Board. The 54-year-old expressed remorse and spoke of the abuse he endured as family members testified on his behalf, but commissioners ruled he must wait three more years before another chance at freedom. The decision leaves supporters disappointed as attention now turns to his brother Lyle’s upcoming hearing.

Parents of Missing Baby Emmanuel Haro Charged with Murder

San Bernardino authorities arrested Jake and Rebecca Haro, the parents of seven-month-old Emmanuel Haro, on murder charges tied to their infant’s disappearance. Emmanuel was reported missing on August 14, when his mother claimed she had been knocked unconscious by an unknown attacker who kidnapped her child. Investigators quickly found inconsistencies in her story and uncovered the father’s history of child abuse. Despite an extensive search involving helicopters and canine units, the baby has not been found. Authorities are urging anyone with information on Emmanuel’s whereabouts to come forward.

Newsom Puts Redistricting Power on California’s November Ballot

Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a bill placing Proposition 50 on the November ballot, asking voters whether to suspend California’s independent redistricting commission and allow lawmakers to redraw congressional districts. Supporters frame the measure as a necessary counter to Republican-led gerrymandering in Texas, while critics — including Arnold Schwarzenegger and the League of Women Voters — warn it undermines reforms Californians overwhelmingly backed. The outcome could shift several House seats and reshape the national fight for control of Congress.
