L.A. Homicides on Track for Historic 60-Year Low

Los Angeles could see its lowest homicide numbers in six decades, according to Mayor Karen Bass. The city has experienced a 20% drop in killings so far in 2025, with LAPD data showing 116 homicides through June—down from 152 at the same time last year. Bass credits targeted safety strategies and a sharp decline in gang-related violence, particularly among youth, as key drivers behind the progress.

LACMA Unveils Controversial New David Geffen Galleries

Thousands gathered at LACMA for a first look at the newly constructed David Geffen Galleries, accompanied by a live performance of Kamasi Washington’s “Harmony of Difference.” While the event celebrated diversity and marked a major milestone in the museum’s expansion, the building itself has stirred controversy over its design, functionality, and departure from architect Peter Zumthor’s original vision. The galleries will officially open to the public in April 2026.
