Fire, Fury and a City on Edge at L.A.’s First Major Mayoral Debate
Los Angeles’ first major mayoral debate of the 2026 election cycle brought sharp clashes over wildfires, homelessness, public safety and the future of Hollywood to the stage at the Skirball Cultural Center. Karen Bass defended her record as mayor, Spencer Pratt delivered emotional attacks tied to the Palisades Fire that destroyed his home, and Nithya Raman pushed for systemic reform while facing criticism from both opponents. With the June 2 election approaching and many voters still undecided, the high-stakes debate offered one of the clearest looks yet at the competing visions for Los Angeles’ future.

California Governor’s Race Enters Combative Final Stretch
With just one month until California’s primary election, the state’s crowded governor’s race is becoming increasingly volatile. During Wednesday night’s debate at the Skirball Cultural Center, candidates clashed over immigration, insurance, housing and economic leadership as Xavier Becerra faced mounting attacks from rivals across the stage. Republican Steve Hilton continued framing the race as a referendum on Democratic leadership, while candidates like Katie Porter, Antonio Villaraigosa and Matt Mahan fought to distinguish themselves in a tightening field. As ballots are already landing in mailboxes across Los Angeles, the debate offered one of the clearest previews yet of the bruising final weeks ahead.

Officials say the coordinated DEA and LAPD raid, dubbed “Operation Free MacArthur Park,” targeted gang-linked dealers operating in and around one of Los Angeles’ most troubled corridors, with authorities warning that additional crackdowns are still to come ahead of the World Cup and 2028 Olympics.

Lively continues to pursue attorneys’ fees, punitive damages and possible triple damages under California law, arguing the lawsuit filed against her was retaliatory after she spoke out about alleged harassment connected to It Ends With Us. Now, all eyes are on Judge Lewis Liman, whose final ruling could determine whether one of Hollywood’s most closely watched legal dramas truly comes to an end.
