LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho has not been seen publicly since federal agents searched his San Pedro home and district headquarters in connection with an investigation tied to AllHere, the education tech startup behind the failed “Ed” chatbot once promoted as a breakthrough for student engagement. The company has since collapsed, its founder faces federal fraud charges, and search warrants tied to the raids remain sealed. No charges have been announced against Carvalho, and the district has offered few details as questions grow about leadership at the nation’s second-largest school system.

LAPD Officer Arrested, Charged With Felony Insurance Fraud

An LAPD officer has been arrested and charged with two counts of felony insurance fraud after prosecutors alleged he collected disability benefits while engaging in physically demanding activities, including recreational skydiving at Lake Elsinore and working out at a gym. Authorities say the officer claimed he was temporarily totally disabled following an on duty elbow injury in 2023, but continued participating in activities inconsistent with that status. He is currently being held on $100,000 bail and could face up to six years in custody if convicted.

LA County Advances Crackdown on Oversized Vehicle Street Parking

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has given preliminary approval to a new ordinance that would restrict oversized vehicles from parking on county streets without a permit. The measure sets size limits and expands enforcement to additional communities, while allowing up to 30 one-day permits per year for qualifying vehicle owners.
