Disgraced Former L.A. Pol Mark Ridley-Thomas Asks Appellate Court to Reverse Convictions

Mark Ridley-Thomas, a former City Councilmember, is contesting his federal conviction for fraud and bribery, with his legal team presenting arguments to the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in Pasadena. The charges against Ridley-Thomas stem from allegations of using his influential political position to secure benefits for his son, Sebastian, from USC. Convicted in March 2023, Ridley-Thomas was sentenced to over three years in federal prison but is currently out on bail. Accusations include securing a prestigious USC position and scholarship for his son in exchange for favorable county contracts for USC's School of Social Work. Despite these charges, Ridley-Thomas maintains his innocence.
