Mayor Bass Approves $2.62 Billion LA Convention Center Expansion Ahead of 2028 Olympics
Los Angeles is moving forward with a $2.62 billion expansion of the Convention Center, a project Mayor Karen Bass finalized this week to reshape downtown and prepare for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The plan will link the venue’s West and South halls, add nearly 200,000 square feet of new exhibit space, and create modern meeting and multi-use facilities. City leaders say the project will not only elevate LA’s Olympic presence but also drive long-term tourism, dining, and economic growth across the city.

Santa Monica Man Arrested for Doxxing ICE Attorney
Federal prosecutors say a 68-year-old Santa Monica man was arrested after allegedly posting the home address of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement lawyer online and urging others to “swat” her residence. Investigators allege the man engaged in a months-long harassment campaign against the attorney and her family. He now faces federal charges that carry a potential prison sentence of up to five years.
LA County Fair Announces 2026 Dates and “Play Your Way” Theme
The Los Angeles County Fair is set to return to the Pomona Fairplex from May 7–31, 2026, running Thursdays through Sundays. This year’s theme, “Play Your Way,” highlights Southern California’s love for fun, from carnival thrills and live music to foodie favorites and sports. Shonda Rhimes Pledges $15M for Historic Dartmouth Dorm
Shonda Rhimes, the powerhouse behind Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, has pledged $15 million to Dartmouth College to fund a new residence hall. The five-story dorm will be the first campus building named after a woman and the first named after a Black alum. Slated to open in 2028, the project is part of the school’s larger plan to expand housing and address the Upper Valley’s housing shortage. Rhimes, a Dartmouth board member, said the gift reflects her commitment to higher education and inclusivity.
