2,000 National Guard Troops Withdrawn from Los Angeles After ICE Protest
After weeks of protests and legal challenges, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the withdrawal of 2,000 National Guardsmen from Los Angeles. The troops were deployed in early June without a state request, following immigration raids that sparked widespread demonstrations. Governor Newsom and Attorney General Bonta filed a lawsuit calling the deployment unlawful, while Mayor Karen Bass credited the pullout to the city’s peaceful resistance. Despite the withdrawal, Newsom noted that hundreds of federalized troops remain in L.A. with no clear justification.

In response to recent immigration raids targeting farms, farmworkers and organizers gathered in downtown L.A. to announce a three-day worker-led strike and grocery store boycott dubbed “Huelga Para La Dignidad.” The strike, set for July 16–18, calls for permanent protections and a pathway to citizenship for undocumented farmworkers. Speakers shared emotional testimony about injuries, years of labor without rights, and the urgent need for dignity and justice.

Gonzalez called the video satirical and said it was meant to rally peaceful community defense—not incite violence. Critics, including the LAPD union and DHS, condemned the remarks, while Gonzalez’s supporters framed it as a call to action.
