Judge Tosses Terrorism-Linked Murder Charges in Mangione Case

A Manhattan judge has dismissed two major murder charges tied to terrorism against Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Supporters chanting “Free Luigi” filled the courtroom as the ruling reshaped but did not end the high-profile case. Prosecutors say they will proceed with nine remaining counts, including second-degree murder, when the trial resumes in December.

Rosarito Siblings Sentenced in Brutal Kidnapping, L.A. Ransom Plot

A brother and sister have been sentenced for kidnapping a neighbor in Rosarito, Mexico, and extorting a $30,000 ransom from the victim’s family in Los Angeles County. Prosecutors said Mario Alex “Shyboy” Medina and his sister María Alejandra Medina pistol-whipped the man, fired a gun near his head, and sent a video of the violence to his family before making ransom demands.

UCLA Fires Head Coach DeShaun Foster After 0–3 Start

UCLA has dismissed head coach DeShaun Foster following the Bruins’ rough season start, capped by a 35–10 loss to New Mexico. Foster, a UCLA alum and longtime assistant, had been head coach since 2023, leading the team to a 5–7 record in their first Big Ten season. Former special assistant Tim Skipper will serve as interim coach while the university searches for a permanent replacement.
