Santa Monica has ordered two Waymo self-driving taxi lots to stop all overnight charging after months of complaints from residents about noise, traffic and constant vehicle activity. The City Council voted 6-0 to require the lots to cease operations between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., citing disruptions that began shortly after the facilities opened in late 2024. Waymo says it provides tens of thousands of rides each week in Santa Monica and will continue working with the city to address neighborhood concerns.
