South L.A. Family's Immigration Scam Leaves Dozens in Legal Limbo

A South L.A. family has been ordered to repay over $222,000 after running an immigration scam that left dozens of victims facing potential deportation. The Gil family, operating as FJA and Associates, ran a scheme from 2008 to 2021 that promised legal residency and work permits but instead filed invalid asylum cases. Offering services they were neither qualified nor licensed to provide, they scammed 73 victims, robbing them of their money and potentially the American Dream. The court sentenced them to probation and suspended prison terms, preventing them from offering similar services unless properly licensed.
