Embattled Mayor Karen Bass Fires LAFD Chief

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has fired LAFD Chief Kristin Crowley, stating it was in the "best interest of L.A.'s public safety." The decision follows criticisms of Bass's handling of recent wildfires and disagreements with Crowley regarding departmental preparedness. Despite the controversy, Mayor Bass appointed Ronnie Villanueva as Interim Chief, a 41-year LAFD veteran recently retired as Deputy Chief. The fallout included tensions over Crowley’s accusations against city budget cuts and a report controversy. Adding to the drama, Deputy Mayor of Public Safety Brian Williams remains on paid leave after an FBI raid linked to a bomb threat investigation. The suspension left his position unfilled during the fires, highlighting ongoing administrative challenges and sparking public concern over leadership during emergencies in Los Angeles.
