Actor Gene Hackman and His Wife Found Dead, Pills Scattered On the Scene

Hollywood mourns the loss of Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 65, found deceased in their New Mexico home on February 26, 2025. Authorities discovered their bodies after a maintenance worker reported seeing them unresponsive through a window. The scene showed no signs of foul play but raised concerns with scattered pills, an unlocked door, and unusual circumstances. Hackman was in the mudroom, with Arakawa in the bathroom near an open prescription bottle, a heater, and one deceased German shepherd. Despite theories of carbon monoxide poisoning by Hackman's daughter, Elizabeth, official investigations by the Santa Fe City Fire Department and New Mexico Gas found no gas leaks, leaving the cause uncertain.
