Judge Rules Trump’s Deployment of Troops to L.A. Protests Was Illegal

A federal judge has ruled that President Trump’s deployment of 5,000 U.S. military troops to Los Angeles during protests sparked by immigration raids was unlawful, violating both the Posse Comitatus Act and the 10th Amendment. U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer said the action risked creating a “national police force” under presidential control, noting the troop presence in L.A. was larger than the U.S. deployment to Afghanistan after 9/11. The ruling is stayed until Sept. 12 to allow for appeal.

L.A. Tow Truck Driver Charged After Towing Federal Vehicle During ICE Arrest

Federal prosecutors say a South Los Angeles tow truck driver brazenly hooked and drove off with a government vehicle—keys and firearm still inside—while agents were in the middle of an immigration arrest at a downtown luxury apartment complex. Nunez now faces federal charges of theft of government property.

The reopening marks another step forward in the Palisades community’s recovery.

FBI Doubles Reward After Chaos at Glass House Farms Raid

The FBI has doubled its reward to $100,000 for information on a man accused of pointing — and possibly firing — a weapon at agents during last month’s chaotic immigration raid at Ventura County’s Glass House Farms. The clash left one worker dead after a fall while fleeing ICE agents, 200 people detained, and 10 minors removed from the site. Federal officials are still seeking tips as questions mount about the deadly raid and its aftermath.
